In SUNRISE, we’re studying quick and easy ways for busy parents to prioritize their
health after delivery. Participants view a unique online health message about gestational diabetes that could be
helpful for them and their family.
This study is funded by National Institutes of Health, also known as the NIH.
Because we need you! Your valuable input could improve health care in the future for
patients like you. Your voice matters!
First you will be asked to do an online survey. Then you will be randomly assigned (by chance, like flipping a coin) to view a unique online health message before and after delivering your baby. You’ll also do a second survey after delivery. Finally, you will complete a third survey at about 12 months after delivery.
Each survey takes about 20 minutes.
Survey questions will ask about your health, health care, and opinions about health
information.
We ask participants to complete each survey as soon as possible after receiving the
survey link. You can opt in to receive survey links via text, in addition to email. If you have a problem

If you decide to participate, any information we obtain is kept entirely confidential.
This means your name will never appear on any report and the data collected will not become part of your medical
record. Your participation in the study is completely voluntary. Choosing not to participate will not affect
your membership in Kaiser Permanente. You can stop participating at any time.
We aim to recruit around 2,000 patients.
You will receive a total of $80 in gift cards to thank you for doing all 3 surveys: $30
after survey 1, $20 after survey 2, and $30 after survey 3.
You will need access to the internet to complete the surveys and view the health
message. You will be responsible for any costs of accessing the internet.
There will be no direct benefit to you from participation in this study. We hope that the
study results will help improve patients’ health and health care in the future.
The online messages contain health information that may be helpful to you. The messages
take up to 20 minutes to view. They can be accessed on your phone or computer, wherever is convenient for you.
Like flipping a coin, assignments are random. Each participant has the same chance of
being in each study group.
The contributions of all participants are equally important! We want to get a true picture about which health messages work – even if we learn that some of them aren’t helpful for some people. We truly value your input.
Assigning participants by chance is the best possible way to find out which health
message works best. For that reason, it’s not possible to change assignments after joining the study.
